On the eastern side of Penobscot Bay, the mile-long Holbrook Island features rocky ledges, sandy beaches, and mud flats, not to mention lots of wildlife and breath-taking views. The island and the wildlife sanctuary are canoeing and sea kayaking meccas. Nearby Castine offers a base for exploring the island and enjoying the lush pine forests and scenic natural beauty.
